Power Assist

Rainshadow Velo offers a high-performance conversion kit for the Quest. With the patented Electric Mountain Drive, our customers can turn the phenomenally efficient Quest into high performance electric-assisted velomobile.

Our electric conversion has been made with extreme attention to detail and quality. The systems are designed specifically for the Quest. Custom brackets are CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum for rock solid durability and then anodized for sharp appearance and scuff resistance. We use the largest motor the law allows with external controllers to shed heat efficiently and crank out the power reliably. Like the Quest; this conversion is the best that can be created with todays technology. Nothing has been spared in creating this drive system.

The key feature of this conversion is that it drives the velomobiles chain. This allows the motor to "see" all of the velomobiles gear range. What that means is that performance is radically increased compared to single speed drives such as hub motors. You can climb any hill and go as fast or faster than the law allows -- all with a small and light motor that doesn't detract from pedaling performance.

A velomobile equipped with this conversion is outrageously fun. Accelerate through the gears then shut the motor down and cruise in silence holding your speed with the pedals alone. This drive has a proprietary freewheeling - fully decoupled drive system; there's absolutely no motor drag when it's shut off! When you come to a hill touch the throttle again and sail up without ever shifting or slowing your cadence. Fly around corners under power. Just be careful not to strain your cheek muscles from grinning too much.

With this conversion; a Quest has enough performance to match a car in around town driving. That means you can forget about high gas prices -- you can go over 600 miles on a dollars worth of electricity. That's even up to 25 times better than an electric car or gas scooter.

Electric bikes and velomobiles are legally* bikes and can be ridden in bike lanes and on bike trails in most locations. That means big safety advantages over motorcycles and scooters because you don't have to mix with automobiles. Or, get caught in traffic.

* Legal maximum speeds for electric bicycles vary by jurisdiction. To use these higher speeds, you may need to register your bike as a moped, operate off road only, or stay under the radar, literally. In practice though, in most locations pollution free transport is encouraged and no one seems to notice if you go a bit fast now and then. Just be courteous to other road users and especially pedestrians.
